About Us – Phonic Smart

Ambitious and professional, Hema began her career as a ‘TEACHER’ in one of the best international schools of Navi Mumbai. With consistent effort to strive for perfection; she was bestowed with the responsibility of an ‘ACADEMIC CO-ORDINATOR’, Pre-Primary.

Her deep understanding of the responsibilities of being an educationist, enthused her to take up the role of a ‘CURRICULUM DEVELOPER’ at another reputed school of Mumbai.

Growing from a developer to an ‘ACADEMIC CURRICULUM MANAGER’ for Pre- Primary, she played a vital role in designing Pre-school curriculum, to foster growth and enhancement in cognitive, intuitive, personal, social and affective domains of child development.

She also made an effectual ‘QAG (Quality Assurance and Guidance) AFFILIATE’ that entailed observing classroom teaching and providing constructive feedback and guidance to the chain of a reputed school across India.

Having an opportunity to experience and gain an understanding of the curriculum across most Pre-schools in Mumbai, Hema strongly felt that many schools largely focused on nurturing children’s general knowledge and writing skills.

It was observed that in the absence of an effectual reading programme in most kindergarten syllabus, teachers adopted the rote reading method, where children repeated words and sentences after the instructor. Also, some who practiced phonics as a method of reading used their own discernment in its implementation. These, delayed children’s early year language development and comprehension aptitude.

Hema, moreover felt that it would be unfair to hold the curricula and teachers completely responsible, when most Pre-school teacher training modules in India are still not well equipped with latest and effective methodologies of promoting early reading skills among children.

Thus with an aim to facilitate early childhood language comprehension skills and to find a solution to the rising concern of parents and teachers who felt an imbalance, in transition of language development from Pre – School to Formal School, Phonic Smart came into existence.
